Support our after-school art program at Perry Center. Sadly this year our funding was cut so severely that we were only able to open the art room on Fridays and on Family Nights, one night a month. The fact that these kids are losing out on access to supplies and art programming is tragic.

We are aiming to renew the program for the young artists by raising funds through an auction during Night at the Museum event planned for June 14th, 2013 from 5pm to 8pm in Courtyard Washington located at 1325 2nd Street NE, Washington, DC (NOMA Metro).

We appreciate the support of the following artists who have donated their art for the cause:

Alex Merritt, Aniekan Udofia, Astrotwitch, Beth Baldwin, Carlos Galloway, Chanel Compton, Chor Boogie, DAHM, Dan Gray, Dana Jeri Maier, Danielle Jennings Tanner, DECOY, DELVE, DEMER, Dennis Toy, Diabetik, Evan Roth, Eve Hennessa, Fire Studio, GAIA, Garth Fry, Helen Warren, HKS181, HUF, Imani Brown, Iwillnotart, Jay Hudson, John Grunwell, Joshua Cogan, KASSO, Kelly Towles, Kevin Hunt, Khadijah Wilson, KIER, Kristina Bilonick, LANK, LIGHT UP, Liz Stewart, Luis Peralta, Mark Jenkins, Mensa Ahdae Kondo, Michael Pinnix, Ms. Mensen, NEBSI, Peter Krsko, Prelli Anthony Williams, RAIN, REI XXI, Rosina Teri Memolo, STER, Superwaxx, TAXI GANG, Tokyo Thirteen, ULTRA, Veronika Kaderova, VICE VERSA, WHO?, Will Carroll, Yvette Mitchell

Special Performance by Da Originalz / Beat Ya Feet Kings:

Whether the children are getting ready for our next mural, painting pots for our peace garden, studying the next artist in our art history book or getting ready for our Night at the Museum art show: art is all around us. Thank you for participating in the show and for keeping art in these kids’ lives for another whole year!

Frank Asher, the owner of Old City Farm and Guild has a challenging task ahead of him – to convert a dead concrete plaza into a living garden full of plants, flowers, trees and animals. This Spring, the garden center moved to the new location at 925 Rhode Island Ave NW, DC and expanded tremendously. They will continue fulfill all gardening needs for the neighborhood and additionally, also start growing fresh produce for the local restaurants.

Albus Cavus has partnered with Frank and Old City Farm and Guild to curate all the paintable surfaces on the property and to exhibit sculptures in the wilderness. Jay Hudson, WHO?, Dan Gray, Jordan Sanders, HUF, DECOY and Chanel Compton and some of our young artists painted murals on the garden sheds during the opening day last weekend.
Today, Maxx Moses aka Pose2 was in LA painting a mural on Olympic and Santa Fe with WERC and Isaias Crow. These artists are currently on a West Coast tour filling neighborhood walls with color.

Was able to catch up with Maxx Moses while he was painting right quick to pick up his piece for the upcoming exhibit. His artwork awakened the day. Unfortunately, the piece was too large that it did not fit into the vehicle. Never fear, a van will come soon. Art Life 2013.

West Coasting Tour continues with a new collaborative mural created by Werc Alvarez, Isaias Crow and Maxx Moses in Chicano Park (Dewey St and National Ave in San Diego, CA).
Artist: Isaias Crow

Three artists with distinctive and original styles jammed together for a few days. Their spontaneity and technical mastery are the seeds that rise into this visual poetry. From silent whispers to loud screams, this mural communicates the entire color wheel of emotions and feelings. The universe is only complete with the bad and uncomfortable, so they emphasize the good and peaceful.

Walk by, stare at it and dance around it. Enjoy the energy and experience that has made its journey through the artists’ minds and hands onto the wall. Each artist’s style has made giant leaps since 2008 when they participated in Concrete Alchemy Tour. The spirit is solid and consistent, yet their styles has evolved and made leaps in the voyage.

Artist: Werc Alvarez

They all constantly experiment with new tools and materials. Maxx Moses incorporated wheatpasted newspapers into the piece, Werc Alvarez added and mixed various media to achieve the effect he wants and Isaias Crow even carved his own rollers pads. Clever innovative ways to add new textures and effects nicely complement the classic tool they all three are the masters of: spray paint.

Artist: Maxx Moses

The art itself is not just the paint on the wall. Their murals are culinary explorations with precise recipes that blend the ingredients with microscopic precision. The ingredients vary from wall to wall and include all the sunrises from Joshua Tree, sad news from the family in Juarez, excitement about new daughter… The universe is abundant with all the sweet and sour goodies. These artists have the ability to inspire the appreciation… appreciation for life, humanity and the universe.

However, their artistic abilities come short compared to real culinary mastery of Irene Castruita without whose love and good food this tour would not be possible.
